Um die 30 Millionen Menschen aus über 40 verschiedenen Volksgruppen mit eigenen Sprachen und Kulturen bevölkern dieses kleine Land. Gelegen zwischen den beiden asiatischen Supermächten Indien und China (Tibet), ist Nepal ein Land der Vielfalt,

in dem die Verbindung von Gegensätzlichem in Natur und Tradition alltäglich ist. Dschungel und Hochgebirgskämme, Buddhismus, Hinduismus und alte Naturreligionen finden sich in diesem einzigartigen Königreich wieder.

Einreisebestimmungen

Du bekommst Dein Visa bei der nepalesischen Botschaft sowie bei einem der Honorakonsulate oder ONLINE BY ARRIVAL. (Antragsformulare kannst Du direkt bei uns anfordern.) Vor der Einreise ONLINE registrieren , Schalter aufsuchen , Visagebühren in Euro bezahlen , Stempel und fertig! Egal wie, Du benötigst dazu einen mindestens noch für 6 Monate gültigen Reisepass sowie ein Passbild. Die Visa - Gebühren richten sich nach der Länge des Aufenthaltes und Anzahl der Einreisen.Aufenthalt bis 15 Tage - ohne Wiedereinreise - kostet derzeit € 35,-.

Zudem benötigt Ihr einen internationalen Führerschein - den bekommt Ihr - ohne Probleme - bei Eurem Straßenverkehrsamt.

Ernährung & Gesundheit

Wie für ganz Asien gilt auch in Nepal: kein ungekochtes Wasser trinken! Am besten versorgt man sich mit Mineralwasser oder Softdrinks wie z.B. Coca Cola. Aber auch das Bier ist mehr als genießbar! ;-)

Es werden einige Schutzimpfungen empfohlen. Diese sind jedoch nicht Pflicht. Für ausführliche Informationen wendest Du Dich am besten an das nächstgelegene Tropeninstitut. Wir empfehlen Tetanus und Polio, soweit notwendig, aufzufrischen. Sinnvoll ist auch eine Hepatitis A Impfung. Für den Süden Nepals wird eine Malaria-Prophylaxe empfohlen. Der beste Schutz ist aber erst gar nicht von den Mücken gestochen zu werden. Da die Malaria-Mittel ausgesprochen gesundheitsschädlich sind und nur vor Malaria nicht schützen, empfehlen wir, die Einnahme von Vitamin B Tabletten (täglich morgens und abends eine) in Verbindung mit Autan. Durch die Einahme von Vitamin B dünstet der Körper einen Geruch aus, den die Mücken nicht ertragen können (für den Menschen übrigens kaum wahrnehmbar). Beginn bereits eine Woche vor der Reise mit der Einnahme. Natürlich können wir keine Garantie für diese Methode übernehmen aber bei uns hat es immer funktioniert.

Beim Essen gilt „esst landestypisch“! Genuss pur - allerdings sollte man sich bei Fleischgerichte zurückhalten, da die hiesige Fleischzubereitung doch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig ist.

Die Umstellung von westlicher auf asiatische Küche ist unumgänglich, wobei wir während der Touren des öfteren auch einfache vegetarische Speisen und Spezialitäten der bereisten Regionen geniessen werden. Frühstück und Abendessen sind immer im Reisepreis enthalten und werden gemeinsam eingenommen. Ein reichhaltiges Frühstück ist dabei leider nicht immer möglich. Speziell bei den Zeltübernachtungen! Wir werden uns dennoch stets um eine abwechslungsreiche Küche bemühen, wobei vor allem lokale Spezialitäten nicht zu kurz kommen werden. Allgemein wird in Nepal wenig Fleisch, wenn überhaupt, dann meist Hühnerfleisch, dafür aber mehr Gemüse, Hülsenfrüchte und Reis gegessen. Die nepalesische Küche ist gut gewürzt, nicht zu scharf und allgemein gutverträglich.

Tagsüber wird es immer die Gelegenheit für kleine Erfrischungen und Zwischenmahlzeiten geben, meist in den einfachen Restaurants der Einheimischen oder Tea Shops am Wegesrand.

Land & Leute

Nepal ist eins der ärmsten Länder der Welt. Gelegentlicher Stromausfall, Wassermangel oder auch unzureichende Benzinversorgung sind Teil des Alltags in einem unterentwickeltem Land. Toleranz und Verständnis für eine ganz andere Kultur sollte jeder Teilnehmer mitbringen.

Ein Schmelztiegel der Kulturen und Völker, zusammengesetzt aus über 101 ethnischen Volksgruppen finden wir Einflüsse aus dem Indisch-Arabischen, Tibet-Burmesischen und dem Mongolischen. Fast jede hat Gruppe hat Ihre eigne Sprache und Religion. Vor allem die Religionen entwickelten sich im Laufe der Zeit zu den zwei Hauptreligionen - Hinduismus und Buddhismus. Viele Nepali praktizieren beide. Es kommt nicht selten vor, das ein und die selbe Tempelanlagen benutzt und auch die Feste gemeinsam gefeiert werden. Im übrigen feiern die Nepali sehr häufig (das Land mit den meisten Feiertagen - weltweit!). Eins ist Ihnen nämlich allen gemein, Sie sind ein ausgesprochenes fröhliches Volk!

Verkehr

Bereits hier beginnt das Abenteuer. Linksverkehr - und das Wichtigste ist die Hupe!

Alles andere ist nur Nebensache. Durch Hupen wird der Verkehr „geregelt“. Ohrenbetäubend - aber es funktioniert!

Man wird süchtig danach. Nachher hat man große Schwierigkeiten sich dem westlichen Verkehrsregeln wieder zu „unterwerfen“.

Bulgaria is located in south-eastern Europe, bordering Romania to the north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. Bulgaria has been a member of the European Union since 2007. Bulgaria is a country with a rich history, culture and nature. Each region of the country has its own tourist characteristics. Here are some examples:

Black Sea Coast: The Black Sea Coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria. The region is known for its beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters and an abundance of water sports activities. Visitors can also visit historic towns such as Varna and Nessebar or relax at one of the many resorts along the coast.

Sofia and surroundings: Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is a city rich in history and culture. Visitors can see the many sights such as the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the Serdica Ruins and Vitosha Mountain. Around Sofia, visitors can also visit the Rila Monasteries, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rila Mountains: The Rila Mountains are a beautiful mountain range with an abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountaineering and skiing. The mountains are also home to the Rila Monastery, one of Bulgaria's most famous landmarks.

Rhodope Mountains: The Rhodope Mountains are another popular outdoor destination in Bulgaria. The region offers a wealth of activities such as hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. Visitors can also visit traditional Bulgarian villages and experience the local culture.

Danube Valley: The Danube Valley in northern Bulgaria is known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. Visitors can go bird watching, on boat trips or visit historic towns such as Russe and Silistra.

Thracian Lowlands: The Thracian Lowlands in southern Bulgaria are known for their vineyards and Bulgarian wine. Visitors can visit wineries and taste the local wine. The region is also rich in historical sites such as the ancient city of Perperikon.

Entry requirements

For citizens of the European Union, an identity card is sufficient as a travel document in the EU member state Bulgaria. However, as the country is not part of the Schengen area, ID and customs checks are usually carried out at all national borders when crossing the border. If you stay in the country for more than 90 days, you have to register with the competent foreigners authority of the place of stay in order to apply for the issue of a "certificate for EU citizens" on the right of residence.

Nutrition & Health

Bulgarian cuisine is exposed to oriental and European influences, especially Turkish, Greek, Austrian and French. There are many extremely fatty dishes, but they are combined with various herbs (thyme, oregano, dill, savory, parsley and forest herbs) and vitamin-rich salads of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, peppers, onions, carrots and garlic to make them more digestible. Preferred cooking methods are braising, roasting, baking, boiling and also the use of earthenware vessels.

The European Health Insurance Card applies. There is a low practice fee per visit to a panel doctor and an equally moderate daily co-payment rate in hospital (leaflet).

There are no special diseases in Bulgaria. Due to the widespread poverty in the former Eastern Bloc, there is an increased rate of Hepatitis A. Water can be drunk from the tap. Much of it comes from the Rila Mountains via long-distance pipelines and tastes like fresh mountain water in many places. Bulgarians drink a lot of water. There are small drinking fountains (cheshma) in numerous places in the city from which one can drink without hesitation, even if dirty-looking people have drunk from it immediately before. The problem is rather explaining to Bulgarians in Germany that they should not simply drink from every market fountain.

Medical treatment is cheaper in Bulgaria than in Western Europe. For dentures, minor or major cosmetic surgery or cures, it is advisable to make an appointment by e-mail before travelling to Bulgaria. Many doctors also specialise in treating foreigners. Even in socialist times, there was state-organised medical tourism to Bulgaria, which was particularly popular with patients from the Middle East (Arabs).

Country & People

Bulgaria is a beautiful, quiet and safe country and the Bulgarians - a friendly and dignified people, always ready to show the world their best side. But there are a few typical Bulgarian peculiarities that are incomprehensible to the inquisitive foreigner.

"We must not embarrass ourselves in front of foreigners." This is a typical phrase from us Bulgarians. Foreigners are treated like kings by us. For they should not doubt for a single moment the proverbial Bulgarian hospitality. Every self-respecting Bulgarian host considers this a point of honour. Sometimes, however, you can overdo it. After all, your guests may treat you like their best friend and be seriously offended if you don't join them at the family table and party until the early hours of the morning. Or they might insist on accompanying you everywhere to show you local sights and so on.

When foreigners visit Bulgaria for the first time, they might get easily upset in terms of questions and answers. Why? Because our head nodding is different from the rest of the world. In other words, a single nod of the head up and down means no in Bulgaria, and shaking the head is a positive signal and means approval.Bulgarians rarely smile. Our compatriots avoid showing their feelings to strangers. This sombre seriousness, which we ourselves do not acknowledge, makes a strong impression on foreigners and is interpreted by them as rudeness and coldness. But as soon as they get to know our hot temper and our open-mindedness, the first impression is quickly dispelled and they even "regret" that they have been so superficially deceived by appearances

Traffic

Vignettes are compulsory for all motorways and country roads. Vignettes can be purchased at Bulgarian border crossings and, for example, at petrol stations in Bulgaria. It is strongly recommended to use the first opportunity to buy a vignette after entering the country, as checks can already be expected in the area close to the border. Anyone driving without a vignette risks a fine. For passenger cars, cars with trailers and minibuses with up to 8 seats, a monthly vignette costs 13.00 euros and a weekly vignette 5.00 euros.

The green insurance card must be shown on entry. A vehicle disinfection is carried out on arrival from Turkey or Serbia (approx. 2 euros). Between 1 November and 1 March each year, dipped headlights must be used during the day.

Road conditions are quite good outside towns, but within towns the roads can have potholes that are unusual for Central Europeans. Beware of railway tracks! Speed should not exceed 10 km/h!

Bulgarian traffic rules are similar to those in Germany. In addition to right-before-left, pedestrians are always stopped at zebra crossings.

Since its opening in the 1950s, the mountain region in Nepal has acted like a magnet for mountaineers, adventurers and travellers - and with good reason. They all may well be attracted primarily by the desire to see the world's highest mountain with their own eyes. Mount Everest, however, is only one of countless spectacular peaks in the Himalayan Mountains. The El Dorado for nature lovers, culture junkies, sportsmen and not to forget - for B I K E R.

Entry requirements

You can get your visa at the Nepalese Embassy and at one of the Honorary Consulates or ONLINE BY ARRIVAL. (You can request application forms directly from us.) Before entering the country, register ONLINE, go to the counter, pay visa fees in euros, stamp and you're done! No matter how, you need a passport valid for at least 6 months and a passport photo. The visa fees depend on the length of your stay and the number of entries. A stay of up to 15 days - without re-entry - currently costs € 35.

You will also need an international driving licence, which you can get - without any problems - at your local road traffic office.

Nutrition & Health

As in all of Asia, do not drink unboiled water in Nepal! It is best to drink mineral water or soft drinks such as Coca Cola. But beer is also more than edible! ;-)

Some vaccinations are recommended. However, these are not compulsory. For more detailed information, please contact your nearest tropical institute. We recommend that you brush up on tetanus and polio if necessary. A hepatitis A vaccination is also advisable. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for southern Nepal. However, the best protection is not to be bitten by mosquitoes in the first place. As the anti-malarial drugs are extremely harmful and do not protect against malaria, we recommend taking vitamin B tablets (one daily in the morning and one in the evening) in combination with Autan. By taking vitamin B, the body emits a smell that mosquitoes cannot stand (by the way, it is hardly noticeable to humans). Start taking it already one week before the trip. Of course, we cannot guarantee this method, but it has always worked for us.

When it comes to food, the rule is "eat the food typical of the country"! Pure enjoyment - but you should hold back on meat dishes, as the local preparation of meat takes a lot of getting used to.

The switch from Western to Asian cuisine is unavoidable, although we will also enjoy simple vegetarian dishes and specialities from the regions we visit on several occasions during the tours. Breakfast and dinner are always included in the tour price and are taken together. Unfortunately, a hearty breakfast is not always possible. Especially when staying overnight in tents! Nevertheless, we will always try to provide varied cuisine, especially local specialities. In general, little meat is eaten in Nepal, if at all, then mostly chicken, but more vegetables, pulses and rice. Nepalese cuisine is well-seasoned, not too spicy and generally well-tolerated.

During the day there will always be the opportunity for small refreshments and snacks, mostly in the simple restaurants of the locals or tea shops along the way.

Country & People

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Occasional power cuts, water shortages or insufficient petrol supply are part of everyday life in an underdeveloped country. Every participant should bring along tolerance and understanding for a completely different culture.

A melting pot of cultures and peoples, composed of more than 101 ethnic groups, we find influences from Indian-Arabic, Tibetan-Burmese and Mongolian. Almost every group has its own language and religion. The religions in particular evolved over time into the two main religions - Hinduism and Buddhism. Many Nepalis practise both. It is not uncommon for one and the same temple to be used and for festivals to be celebrated together. Incidentally, Nepalis celebrate very often (the country with the most public holidays - worldwide!). One thing they all have in common is that they are a very happy people!

Traffic

The adventure begins here. Left-hand traffic - and the most important thing is the horn!

Everything else is just a minor matter. The traffic is "regulated" by honking. Deafening - but it works!

You become addicted to it. Afterwards, it is very difficult to "submit" to the western traffic rules again.

Rhodopengebirge: Das Rhodopengebirge ist ein weiteres beliebtes Outdoor-Reiseziel in Bulgarien. Die Region bietet eine Fülle von Aktivitäten wie Wandern, Reiten und Mountainbiken. Besucher können auch traditionelle bulgarische Dörfer besuchen und die lokale Kultur erleben.

Donautal: Das Donautal im Norden Bulgariens ist bekannt für seine atemberaubenden Landschaften und die reiche Tierwelt. Besucher können hier Vögel beobachten, auf Bootsfahrten gehen oder historische Städte wie Russe und Silistra besuchen.

Thrakisches Tiefland: Das Thrakische Tiefland im Süden Bulgariens ist bekannt für seine Weinberge und den bulgarischen Wein. Besucher können Weingüter besuchen und den lokalen Wein probieren. Die Region ist auch reich an historischen Stätten wie der antiken Stadt Perperikon.

Einreisebestimmungen

Für Bürger der Europäischen Union ist im EU-Mitgliedsland Bulgarien der Personalausweis als Reisedokument ausreichend. Da das Land jedoch nicht Teil des Schengen-Raums ist, erfolgen an allen Landesgrenzen in aller Regel beim Grenzübertritt Ausweis- und Zollkontrollen. Hält man sich länger als 90 Tage im Land auf, so ist eine Anmeldung bei der zuständigen Ausländerbehörde des Aufenthaltsortes erforderlich, um die Ausstellung einer "Bescheinigung für EU-Bürger" über das Aufenthaltsrecht zu beantragen.

Ernährung & Gesundheit

Die bulgarische Küche ist orientalischen und europäischen Einflüssen ausgesetzt, besonders durch die türkische, griechische, österreichische und französische. Es gibt viele äußerst fettreiche Gerichte, die aber mit verschiedenen Kräutern (Thymian, Oregano, Dill, Bohnenkraut, Petersilie und Waldkräutern) sowie vitaminreichen Salaten aus Tomaten, Kraut, Gurken, Paprika, Zwiebeln, Möhren und Knoblauch kombiniert werden, um sie verdaulicher zu machen. Bevorzugte Zubereitungsarten sind Schmoren, Braten, Backen, Kochen und auch die Anwendung von tönernen Gefäßen.

Die Europäische Krankenversicherungskarte gilt. Es gibt bei Kassenärzten eine geringe Praxisgebühr pro Besuch sowie einen ebenfalls moderaten Tageszuzahlungssatz im Krankenhaus (Merkblatt).

Besondere Krankheiten gibt es nicht in Bulgarien. Auf Grund der verbreiteten Armut im ehemaligen Ostblock gibt es eine erhöhte Rate von Hepatitis A.

Das Wasser kann aus der Leitung getrunken werden. Es kommt über Fernleitungen zu einem großen Teil aus dem Rilagebirge und schmeckt vielerorts nach frischem Gebirgswasser. Bulgaren trinken sehr viel Wasser. Es gibt in der Stadt an zahlreichen Stellen kleine Trinkbrunnen (Tscheschma), aus denen man bedenkenlos trinken kann, auch wenn unmittelbar davor dreckig wirkende Personen davon getrunken haben. Das Problem besteht eher darin, Bulgaren in Deutschland zu erklären, dass sie nicht einfach aus jedem Marktbrunnen trinken sollen.

Ein medizinische Behandlung ist in Bulgarien billiger als in Westeuropa. Bei Zahnersatz, kleiner oder größerer kosmetischer Chirurgie oder Kuren empfiehlt sich eine vorherige Terminabstimmung per e-mail, noch bevor man nach Bulgarien reist. Viele Ärzte haben sich auch auf die Behandlung von Ausländern spezialisiert. Bereits zu sozialistischen Zeiten gab es einen staatlich organisierten Medizintourismus nach Bulgarien, der besonders stark von Patienten aus dem Nahen Osten (Arabern) genutzt wurde.

Land & Leute

Bulgarien ist ein schönes, ruhiges und sicheres Land und die Bulgaren - ein freundliches und würdevolles Volk, stets bereit, sich der Welt von seiner besten Seite zu zeigen. Aber es gibt ein paar typisch bulgarische Besonderheiten, die für den wissbegierigen Ausländer unverständlich sind.

„Wir dürfen uns vor den Ausländern nicht blamieren.“ Das ist ein typischer Satz von uns Bulgaren. Ausländer werden von uns wie Könige behandelt. Denn sie sollen keinen einzigen Moment an der sprichwörtlichen bulgarischen Gastfreundschaft zweifeln. Jeder bulgarische Gastgeber, der etwas auf sich hält, sieht das als Ehrensache an. Zuweilen kann man es aber auch übertreiben. Ihre Gäste können Sie nämlich wie ihren besten Freund behandeln und ernsthaft beleidigt sein, wenn Sie nicht bis in die frühen Morgenstunden mit am Familientisch sitzen und mitfeiern. Oder sie könnten darauf bestehen, Sie überall zu begleiten, um Ihnen lokale Sehenswürdigkeiten zu zeigen und so weiter.

Wenn Ausländer zum ersten Mal Bulgarien besuchen, könnten sie in Sachen Fragen und Antworten leicht aus der Fassung geraten. Warum? Weil unser Kopfnicken anders ausfällt als im Rest der Welt. Mit anderen Worten: Ein einzelnes Nicken mit dem Kopf nach oben und unten bedeutet in Bulgarien Nein. Und das Kopfschütteln ist ein positives Signal und bedeutet Zustimmung.Bulgaren lächeln selten. Unsere Landsleute meiden es, Fremden ihre Gefühle zu zeigen. Dieser düstere Ernst, den wir selbst nicht wahrhaben, macht einen starken Eindruck auf die Ausländer und wird von ihnen als Unhöflichkeit und Kälte ausgelegt. Sobald sie aber unser hitziges Temperament und unsere Aufgeschlossenheit kennenlernen, ist der erste Eindruck schnell verflogen und sie „bedauern“ sogar, dass sie sich so oberflächlich vom äußeren Schein haben täuschen lassen.

Verkehr

Es besteht für alle Autobahnen und Landstraßen Vignettenpflicht. Die Vignetten können an den bulgarischen Grenzübergängen und z.B. an Tankstellen in Bulgarien gekauft werden. Es wird dringend empfohlen, nach Einreise die erste Möglichkeit zum Vignettenkauf zu nutzen, da bereits im grenznahen Bereich mit Kontrollen zu rechnen ist. Wer ohne Vignette fährt, riskiert ein Bußgeld. Für Pkw, Pkw mit Anhänger und Kleinbusse mit bis zu 8 Sitzplätzen kostet eine Monatsvignette (13,00 Euro und eine Wochenvignette 5,00 Euro.

Bei der Einreise muss die Grüne Versicherungskarte vorgezeigt werden. Es wird eine Fahrzeugdesinfektion bei Anreise aus der Türkei oder Serbien durchgeführt (ca. 2 Euro). Zwischen dem 1. November und dem 1. März eines jeden Jahres ist auch tagsüber mit Abblendlicht zu fahren.

Die Straßenverhältnisse sind außerorts recht gut, innerorts können die Straßen für Mitteleuropäer ungewohnte Schlaglöcher aufweisen. Achtung bei Bahngleisen! Die Geschwindigkeit sollte 10 km/ h nicht überschreiten!

Bulgarische Verkehrsregeln ähneln den Deutschen. Neben Rechts-vor-Links wird an Zebrastreifen immer für Fußgänger gehalten.

Albanien liegt in Südeuropa. Angrenzende Länder sind Montenegro im Norden, Kosovo im Osten, Mazedonien im Südosten und Griechenland im Süden. Im Westen grenzt das Albanien an die Adria.

Das Land verfügt über beeindruckende Naturschönheiten wie Sandstrände am Mittelmeer, imposante Berglandschaften, fruchtbare Ebenen, große und kleine Seen und viele unberührte Gegenden. Albanien hat eine lange |Geschichte, die bis zu den Illyrern führt. Es gibt viele antike Ruinen und andere Schätze aus alter Zeit. Viele verschiedene Kulturen haben Spuren hinterlassen, so dass das Land eine interessante Mischung architektonischer Monumente und gesellschaftlicher Einflüsse bieten kann.

Einreisebestimmungen

Deutsche und andere EU-Bürger benötigen für die Einreise nach Albanien kein Visum. Eine Ein- oder Ausreisegebühr fällt nicht an. Eine Einreise ist sowohl mit dem Reisepass als auch einem Personalausweis möglich. Die Dokumente müssen mindestens 3 Monate gültig sein.

Ernährung & Gesundheit

Die albanische Küche ist mediterran geprägt. Albanische Spezialitäten sind Byrek, Bohnensuppe, Biftek, Tarator, Lokum, Kadaif, Sultjash und Baklava. Typische Getränke sind Bosa, Dhalla und Borovnica .

Es ist keine Seltenheit auch Gerichte aus der griechischen Küche in Albanien zu finden, da Griechenland unmittelbar am Süden Albaniens grenzt. Gleiches gilt auch für die Balkan und Italienische Küche. Da viele der Köche auch im benachbarten Ausland gelebt haben, haben sie dieses Wissen mit ins eigene Land gebracht. Gemüse und Salate werden stets frisch von den umgrenzenden Bauern geliefert.

In ländlichen Gegenden gibt es in Restaurants oft keine Speisekarte. Es gibt, was gerade vorhanden ist.

Die ärztliche Versorgung ist unzureichend und entspricht bei weitem nicht deutschem Standard. Operationen sollten nur im äußersten Notfall durchgeführt werden. Besondere Vorsorgemaßnahmen, wie z.B. Flugrettungsverträge, sind zu empfehlen.

Land & Leute

Ganz besonders Urlaubern und Touristen wird ein überragender Respekt gezollt. Man sollte sich nicht wundern, weshalb man bei einer Konversation mit einem Bewohner oft an der Schulter, am Arm, etc. berührt wird. Albaner zeigen somit eine offene und wohlwollende Art und Respekt. An Respekt mangelt es in dieser Kultur also kaum, ganz besonders als Ausländer wird man sehr gut aufgenommen, und man findet sogar bei ländlichen oder städtischen Häusern Unterschlupf ohne als Last zu gelten. Der albanische Schriftsteller Ismail Kadare hat einmal die herausragende Gastfreundschaft in Albanien mit den Worten umschrieben: "Das Haus des Albaners gehört ganz nach dem Kanun zuerst Gott und dem Gast und dann erst den Bewohnern".

Verkehr

Die Straßenverhältnisse sind teilweise sehr schlecht; insbesondere in der Nähe von Flüssen ist mit Schotterpisten anstelle von Straßen zu rechnen. Autofahren in Tirana ist nur für Geübte zu empfehlen. Die Mitnahme einer guten Straßenkarte ist nur bedingt hilfreich, da viele Karten nicht aktuell und fehlerhaft sind.

Mittlerweile wird viel in den Straßenbau investiert und die größeren Hauptverkehrsstraßen können sich mittlerweile sehen lassen. Allerdings sind die Nebenstraßen, besonders die abgelegenen, noch immer in einem schlechten Zustand.
